That little light in the back of your oven may be one of its most useful features. It lets you check on the cooking process to make sure things are rising or browning as they should and that you're not going to end up with a charred mess. Most of our electric ovens have an indicator lamp next to the temperature selection control. Once the oven has reached the temperature you have chosen, the light will go out.
